Why Marketing Without Social Media Is the Smartest Thing You Could Do For Your Brand

Building your entire brand on social media alone means you’re betting on a third party for success, which is a fancier way of saying, your audience could be ripped away from you at any moment. All of your hard work, gone.

And I’m not fear-mongering, okay? Just think about the social media graveyard for a minute…Myspace was huge for years until Facebook came around, and it died out. Vine was the place to be until TikTok replaced it. Oh, and how could I forget the looming TikTok ban that was sending influencers into a spiral in 2025?

It’s really only a matter of time before the next new hot thing rolls around or some bitter hater reports your profile for no freaking reason, and you’re back to rebuilding your audience from square one.

Or, maybe none of that happens. Maybe IG, Facebook, LinkedIn and TikTok live on forever. You’re still betting on an algorithm that changes every few months, and chasing trends that don’t align with your brand values just to catch some views and engagement, which isn’t a good strategy.

Don’t worry, I’m calling myself out, too.

And I’m not saying you shouldn’t use social media, mmmkay? But you should absolutely learn how to grow your business without social media so your eggs aren’t all in one digitally fucked basket.

How to Market your business without Social Media (and make bank)

Back in 2025, I went through some rather unexpected and earth-shattering shit. It’s personal, so I’m not going to get into the juicy details, which I know you hate because you’re probably nosey as hell like me. But my whole world turned upside down within a day, and I very quickly found myself struggling to hop in front of a camera and put a smile on my face.

I debated telling my audience that I was taking a break, but that felt like it would gut my authority. So, I just slowly backed away in silence and posted a few stories here and there to let people know I was alive. Was this a great strategy? Absolutely the F* not. And I wouldn’t recommend following in my footsteps.

But I share this story because, despite not posting for eight months, my business continued to grow to six figures, and it’s all because I built my business and marketing strategies without social media in mind.

Yep, you read that right. I didn’t start a business social media profile for nearly three years.

Instead, I focused on dialing in my website copywriting, collecting leads via my website and building a solid email list, and a few other golden nuggets that I’ll explain in more detail below.

Full disclosure, while I’ve done 99% of the things on this list, there are a few I haven’t personally tried. But I’ve seen them work firsthand for many of my clients and friends, so I threw them in anyway.

Okay, LFG.

Invest In SEO Website Copywriting

Maybe I’m biased because website copywriting is the bread and butter of my business, but you can ask anyone else who’s running a successful business, and I’m confident they’ll tell you the same – website copywriting is a must-have if you want to be a successful business.

Not only does web copy strategically guide your customers to take action, but it lets your audience get a deeper glimpse into your world, your voice, your backstory and why they should choose you over some other bish in your industry.

And when it’s done right, it’s sprinkled with keywords that your audience is actively searching for and will pull in organic search traffic while you sleep. We call this search engine optimization, and it’s one of the best ways to market your business without socials.

Start Writing a Blog That Attracts Your Ideal Clients

The obvious follow-up to website copywriting is to write a blog that attracts your ideal clients. Blogs are another great way to use SEO in your business by covering topics that your audience is actively searching for. They also help establish trust with your people by showing them you are well-informed and can speak on your services in detail, which is hard to do in short-form content.

And if you’re a copywriter like me, blog writing gives your peeps a little taste of your word magic.

But starting a blog and ranking at the top of Google isn’t as simple as throwing some articles up every now and then. SEO can take quite a bit of work and consistency before you see any payoff, especially if you’re operating in a crowded niche. I’ve seen websites take a year or two to gain full traction, and I’ve seen others start ranking in only weeks.

The bottom line is you need an SEO blog strategy for this to work. But once the payoff of organic traffic rolls in, you’ll never look back.

Optimize Your Google Business Profile (Especially If You Have a Storefront)

This tip is mostly for brick-and-mortar businesses targeting local areas, but hey, I don’t have a storefront and still have a Google Business Profile, so if you’re an online business, don’t tune out just yet.

Your Google Business Profile is a snapshot of your business and tells prospective clients when you’re operating, how to contact you, where you’re located and what other customers have to say about your business. Optimizing your Google Business Profile for local search results can bring in tons of organic traffic and establish you as an authority figure if you show up at the top of the search results.

Push Organic Traffic to Your Website Via Pinterest

Before you get your panties in a bunch, I’m aware that some people consider Pinterest to be social media. But, I do not. Sure, Pinterest accounts have individual profiles and followers, but it doesn’t have an algorithm like most traditional social platforms.

Instead, Pinterest operates like a visual search engine, meaning you can easily optimize your posts with keywords and add outbound links to your website. Plus, Pinterest is much more evergreen than other social media platforms, which, if you’re not familiar with the term, means your posts can show up in search results for months or years to come.

Form Partnerships with Like-minded Brands That Share Your Audience

Okay, this might not work for all of you, but for my service-provider baddies reading: LOCK IN. There’s room for all of us at the top, so let’s stop giving mean girl energy and start collaborating with other business owners and forming partnerships that make us both grow. Sound good?

As a copywriter, I’m constantly looking for web designers to partner with, because while some of my clients have designers on speed dial, that’s not the case for everyone. I’m also always looking for brand strategists whom I can refer people to who aren’t quite ready for copywriting.

What’s great about these partnerships is that they work two ways. Both the web designers and brand strategists will then send their clients my way when they need help with copy or messaging. Pretty cool, right?

This is one of my favorite ways to market without social media, and arguably the most underrated.

Collect Leads on Your Website and Build an Email List

Believe it or not, email lists are a freakin’ goldmine for sales. People ask me all the time, “I never read my emails, is it really worth it?” And the answer is yes. A lot of people probably won’t open your emails, but if you write good ones, you’ll have a handful of people who do. Shoot, I’m willing to bet they even look forward to your emails every week (or however often you send them).

The tricky part is building the email list. And there are a few different ways you can do this. The most obvious one is to offer a free lead magnet on your website, which will probably be in the form of a quiz, discount, mini course, exclusive access or free download.

Just don’t forget to segment your email list! What makes email marketing so powerful is the ability to funnel your leads into specific audiences that you can send hyper-specific campaigns to. That’s the real secret marketing sauce.

Guest Post On Blogs In Your Niche

Alright, remember when I said there were a few things on my “how to market without social media” list that I hadn’t tried yet? Well, this is one of them. Back when I started my travel blog, I spent a ton of time researching blogging (obviously). And the one thing I kept stumbling on was guest posting.

Basically, you can look for websites in your niche that offer guest posting opportunities where you can write a blog (usually for free) that will be featured on their website and listed under your byline. A few things to note — this is great for backlinks (part of SEO), and it’s also great for getting organic traffic from an audience that mirrors yours. Just make sure you read the fine print because some brands won’t include the byline, which kinda defeats the purpose.

Speak on a Podcast In Your Niche (or something similar)

Next up on the “I’ve never tried this” list: speaking on a podcast! I’ve been invited to speak on a few, but at the time, I was pretty terrified of public speaking and wasn’t sure what to talk about. This was before I was a copywriter, by the way. Anyway. I digress…

If you’re into public speaking or trying to push your comfort zone, or desperate to get away from digital marketing on social media, reaching out to your favorite podcast hosts and asking for an interview could be massive for your business. The key here is to make sure you’re speaking on a podcast that is either in your niche or something closely related, otherwise you’ll end up attracting a ton of people who don’t care about you or your business.

Host a Webinar, Sell a Course & Run Ads

Lastly, but certainly not least, hosting webinars and running ads are great ways to market your business without social media. I put this one last because it technically requires some social media if you’re running ads in Meta Ads Manager. But I decided to keep it anyway because it’s separate from organic socials, which is the part that makes people cry at night.

If you have a webinar, course or any other sort of lead magnet you’re trying to push or sell, you can run Ads via Meta Ads Manager or Google and skip the whole posting three times a day BS just to be stuck in 200-view jail BS.

Hire a copywriter to make word magic for your business
